In the bleak 8 months of 2020, this six-week class was such a bright spot. In addition to learning so much fascinating (and repetitive) history, I walked away with an action plan, armed to engage in debate and to lend my voice as an amplifier, an advocate, and an ally. What’s more is I’ve been able to take what I’ve learned and bring it to my own organization as well as to my family and friends to further anti-racism in my networks and create some macro-level change. On a micro-level, Roots to Revolution has allowed me to find purpose in this crazy, chaotic world in which we’re now living. I cannot recommend it enough!

This class has been a remarkable experience, and through it, I have been able to engage in anti-racist work in a variety of ways. Weekly readings, videos, and podcasts were extremely educational and manageable with my schedule, class discussions and presentations were enlightening and formative, and completing action plans allowed me to be more active in the work and find my path–especially in my community. Roots to Revolution equipped me to make this work and this movement a part of my daily life!

I have learned more in the last 6 weeks about the history of American racism than across my entire life. Through this course, I unlearned many harmful narratives about our history that have been perpetuated for decades or centuries. I also loved that every week also included an action plan, which I found integral to making anti-racism practice part of my daily life. The classes are always engaging and the teachers do a great job integrating lectures along with small group discussion and group work. This class taught me so much about how much Black Americans, and especially Black women have fought for the liberation of all people.

Take this class! On my personal journey of understanding racism and how to be an anti-racist, the knowledge and facts of history learned here have been invaluable. This journey involves discovering the roots of systemic racism as well as searching your own soul to see how you may be contributing. The class allows you to learn facts and also provides opportunities to ask questions and gives you ideas for personal action plans for anti-racism.
